Wanna vape your weed instead of smoking it? You’re gonna need at least two things: a vape pen and some THC vape juice. In this article, the experts at Honest Marijuana reveal everything you need to know about THC vape juice so that you understand what it is and how to use it.
Along the way, we’ll even show you how to make your own THC vape juice and how to gauge the dosage for the best high possible. Let’s get started.
What Is Vape Juice?
Vape juice (a.k.a. e-juice or e-liquid) is a mixture of water, sometimes alcohol, sometimes nicotine, food-grade flavoring, and propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG).
Vape juice first popped onto the scene when e-cigarettes were introduced as an alternative to regular cigarettes. For that reason, those in the know usually reserve the term “vape juice” (by itself) to refer to a liquid that:
- Contains nicotine
- Is used as a replacement for smoking cigarettes
So, just like some of the other slang in the cannabis community, it’s not OK to say vape juice when you actually mean THC vape juice. If you do, those who know better may get confused…or at the very least, think you’re a tool.
If you’re talking about a replacement for cigarettes (with or without added nicotine), say vape juice. If you’re talking about vaping to get high, say THC vape juice.
What Is THC Vape Juice?
THC vape juice is basically the same thing as vape juice — it’s water (or alcohol), flavoring, and PG or VG — except that THC vape juice also contains … wait for it … a THC concentrate.
The most common forms of THC concentrate are:
- CO2 extraction
- Liquid THC
You can also use cannabis oil (a.k.a. Rick Simpson oil) as long as you dilute it before applying heat. We’ll explain all that in greater detail in the Can You Make Your Own THC Vape Juice? section later in this article.

CBD Vape Juice & CBD Vape Oil
In short, CBD vape juice is the liquid that’s used in vaporizers, vape cartridges, and other vape devices to produce delicious CBD vapors.
Known by other names such as e-liquid, e-juice, vaping liquid, e-cigarette juice, or incorrectly labeled CBD vape oil, CBD vape juice is what fuels the CBD vape industry—and allows you to vaporize your CBD intake.
CBD vape juice can be made with three types of CBD*…
- Broad Spectrum CBD – pure CBD with slight any THC (.3%)
- Full Spectrum CBD – pure CBD with slight traces of THC (.3%) and other cannabinoids
- CBD Isolate – the purest form of CBD with non-detectable traces of THC** or other cannabinoids; this means you won’t have to worry about THC showing up on a drug test.*Note – All CBD types are non-psychoactive and hold no adverse side effects.
**Note – As required by the federal government and FDA, industrial hemp used in mass-market CBD products are prohibited from holding more than .3% THC content.
What Are The Ingredients Of CBD Vape Juice?
Generally speaking, e-liquids are made from harmless food-based ingredients. However, there are a few bad actors out there making vape juice from poor ingredients like vitamin e acetate, pesticides, solvents, or essential oils.
These types of companies should be avoided so if you see any of these ingredients on a label, put the bottle down, and avoid them.
In general, the vape juice is made of five main ingredients: water, flavoring, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and sometimes terpenes.
While the flavorings themselves are widely used in food-based applications—for example, candies and other edibles—are safe to consume, and when combined well, make some incredible flavors!
However, when searching for a good vape juice, you want to keep an eye out for these key ingredients…
- This is a colorless, odorless liquid used in a variety of food and medical applications. It helps to evenly distribute the taste and flavor of the vape juice.
- This is a natural chemical derived from vegetable oil. It’s used to give a certain level of thickness to the vapor, and smoothes out the harshness of the Propylene Glycol, and give your e-liquid flavors more body.
If you can read your vape juices label or check it’s lab report and only see 4-5 ingredients, you’re looking at a high-quality product.
What are Possible Dangers of Vaping?
There are reported cases of lung problems after they use vapes. In 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found about 200 cases of severe lung diseases linked to e-cigarette use.
Can vape and the use of THC products also cause lung problems? About 92.1 percent of users burn a joint. However, vaping with e-juice is becoming popular among teens and young adults.
Vaping THC produces less toxic substances that can harm you than smoking. Is it safe to vape marijuana?
Let’s first analyze the difference between smoking weed and vaporizing weed:
Smoking marijuana is dangerous to your health. When you smoke, you ingest toxic substances that can be carcinogenic directly to your lungs.
In vaping, you get rid of the combustion process. The vapor is easier on the lungs.
However, it doesn’t mean that vaping is safe at all angles. Vaping THC only seems to be less harmful than smoking.
1. You inhale dangerous compounds
Vaping marijuana makes use not only of THC or CBD. The vapor also contains compounds that can irritate the lungs.
What’s more alarming is that there are no strict regulations in vaping cartridges. When you buy THC products, you don’t know what it really contains since there is no product information.
Some of the harmful elements that can be present in vaping THC include:
- Carcinogenic compounds: The vaporization can produce possible carcinogenic compounds that are triggered with heat.
- Heavy metals: Vape pens contain heavy metals that can break down over time.
- Fine elements. Although vaping e-juice doesn’t undergo the process of combustion, it can still produce tiny particles that can ingest into the lungs directly.
- Harmful flavoring: These elements are made from strong chemicals like diacetyl that was found to be associated with serious lung diseases.
2. Breathing difficulties
If you already have asthma, vaping THC liquid can aggravate your condition. It can also lead to the spasm of bronchial tubes.
Some marijuana oils contain up to 90 percent of THC. If you only start using vapes with marijuana, you have a higher risk of intoxication because it gives a higher amount of THC in your bloodstream.
4. Brain issues
The THC in weeds directly affects brain receptors that control a person’s neurological functions and development. When abused, vaping THC can impact your memory and thinking.
Vaping like smoking marijuana can cause addiction. It can get the user into the habit of abusing it until it gets uncontrollable.
6. It can worsen a present health condition
If you have heart or circulatory problems, diabetes, low blood pressure, or schizophrenia, it can worsen your condition. Using marijuana whether through vaping or smoking can increase your heart rate. Fast heart rate can make you susceptible to a heart attack.
In 2019, more and more people who are vaping suffered lung-related issues. At least 47 people in Alaska have died due to vaping. It was found that most cases were found to be associated with the use of THC products that were ordered from illegal sources online.
Although there isn’t any solid study yet that can tell that vaping THC products can cause serious lung diseases, you need to be careful about where you buy your THC compound or concentrates.
